As those of you, the many of you – thank you again, who have been following us for a while will know¸ we have been coming to Pebble Beach for quite a few years now (going on 15 – is that even possible?) and have been raving about the unique ability of the Concoursweek to blow one’s mind.
Of course, there’s a combination of reasons to such a recurring success, but if we tried to isolate the main contributing factors: a stellar reputation for excellence (itself built on uncompromising standards, applied consistently over time by an organizing team that, seemingly, leaves nothing to chance). A setting that lends itself particularly well to such a display as the Concours – almost as an overflowing jewelry box. An audience of participants, whether because they pride themselves on being selected to participate to the event or enjoy the passing the great stories such magnificent cars are sure to carry with them to the large and qualified audience the event attracts without fail. A public that arrives ready to wonder and be surprised, somewhat like young children at Xmas who always seem to find more under the tree than they ever dreamt of…
Whatever the recipe, the secret sauce, we are thrilled that Suixtil is but one of the small ingredients that get added to the mix and try, year after year, strive to delight our visitors by providing our usual selection of great merchandise, historical context and, on the side, a big dollop of assorted tall-tales from way back when and that never ever seem to reach their sell-by date – so there you have it – at life speed!
And of course, there are all the surrounding attractions to – have you even been to Race Week if you did not drop to the Cantina for a bite, spent time marveling at the machines parked up and down almost every street downtown Carmel, checked out the auctions (how many are they now – we’re not even sure but still love the great show put out by our friends at RM Sotheby’s), dropped by the track at Laguna Seca on the pre-historics (and believe you me – they go down that Corkscrew like you can only dream off), hang out with friends, old and new – and so on and so forth….
All this to say that this year was no different, between the various anniversary celebrations (McLaren, Porsche, Lamborghini – need we say more?) and the various special series, there was more to gawk at than one can reasonably be expected to. It has gotten to the point where you’d almost have to be a curiosity glutton to be able to take it all-in. we certainly could not, but have brought you back, as is our custom, a gallery of selected shots to try and inspire you to join us next year – it’s well worth the trouble and certainly an experience that you cannot replicate anywhere else…
