We didn’t make it to Retromobile this year — doctor’s orders — but fortunately our good friend from Belgium, P. Stubbe, did. And he returned armed with treasure. So much treasure, in fact, that we’ve spent the better part of two weeks agonizing over which images to include and which to (reluctantly) set aside.
It’s hardly surprising. Put a gifted photographer in front of an exhibition that truly had everything and you’re bound to end up with an embarrassment of riches. There were merchants unveiling spectacular displays, cars you never expect to encounter “in the flesh,” artists showing their very best work, and an organizer who took their role seriously enough to devote generous space to both the Art Car anniversary and the Bugatti train — along with a host of other beauties. And auctions, did we mention a host of auctions too?
And that’s only what we saw through his lens. There was undoubtedly much more to discover, but we’ll let you wander through the (still extensive, at over 220 pictures) gallery we’ve assembled and let your imagination do the rest. We hope you’ll come away, as we did, convinced that Retromobile remains well worth the trip — at life speed.
