Another grand edition of the Mille Miglia – vintage racing at its very best…

June opens up a world of opportunities, when it comes to vintage racing and none better than the Mille Miglia in Italy.

A spectacular rendition of an glorious race – where Suixtil heroes shone more than once (lest you forgot who established the absolute – and absolutlely mad, if you think of it) record for the course…. How we miss them, those Stirling characters, those risque-tout who were racing not for the money (well, not primarily) or the glory (then again, that did not hurt either) but first and foremost for the “beaute du geste” and also to show their friends and fellow racers who really had the right stuff.

Well, the Mille today, while completely different in structure and organization, has certainly managed to retain some of that beauty – the cars alone, of course… – a great share of time suspended, upended maybe? And for a week almost, when the whole of Italy gathers along the itinerary to hear and see these witnesses of glorious time drive by, the world, our world at least, slows down and lose some of its sharpness. It takes on a greater softness, a brighter glow where we love to bask, knowing that it will all be too quick;y over.

This edition did not lose its magic and it certainly was a great pleasure to see friends and afficionados carrying the torch – this one kitted to the nine, that one with a splendid El Chico helmet and guard set to protect from the road, that one there sporting the Suixtil colors like a badge of honor they truly are…. But enough of this and have a look at the images we have collected of these various moments – with thanks and © to their respective owners, including, but not limited to, our friends at the Houtkamp Collection who certainly have mastered the difficult art of perfectly organizing large scale events for their clients. Here, then, come the pictures – enjoy and, arrivederci, as they say over there – at life speed!
