And so it came to pass that for reasons beyond our control we had to give this edition of Retromobile a miss. It was, quite literally at that, heartbreaking. Then again, it did not have to mean that Suixtil wouldn’t be there. Quite fortunately, our partners and friends from Historic Driver – you must know them by now – drove all the way from the extreme South-Western part of France and worked very hard to present you with a great looking stand and a comprehensive selection of our Heritage Line. By all accounts, they did an outstanding job and we are very pleased with them – though, again, we’d rather have been there ourselves to meet you all and take in the sights of Paris in early February.
And about those sights, here is another confirmation: we depend more and more on first-rate merchants and traders to put together a real “show” at this exhibition. The organizers appear to have relinquished their role in that field and to rely almost exclusively on others to actually bring the substance of the events. Luckily, these merchants certainly do not shy away from bringing together some fabulous machines. They were all here this year: the P4, the 312B2, the 250F, the 312P, the Bimotore and so many more… So thanks be to the Fiskens, Girardo and Kidston (among others) who manage to pull it off and still make Retromobile a magnet for spectators to come and gawk at some of these extraordinary moments of motoring history we have all learned about.
And as to people, and while we weren’t there ourselves, we were thrilled to see through the pictures we received and spied on many other sites that friends had, once again, made the journey to get together. It looked like a lot of fun and, without a doubt, one of the best reason to undertake the whole journey. And it is probably what will make us come back next year if we can.
Meanwhile, and thanks to our colleagues and friends, we’ve been able to built a small gallery of the event for your enjoyment and to give you a taste of what the 2020 edition of Retromobile looked like – we hope you’ll enjoy it and let us know your thoughts and impressions – at life speed!
