We bet you know the infectious song, the one that goes “Oh yes, it’s good to be the king” – well, figure that our Dave, 6-time SVRA champ and BARC Boys founding member (and Suixtil Ambassador for more years than we care to remember) knows a thing or two about the feeling. This must be especially true as Dave now came back to Sebring, one of the scenes of his (and his friends, of course) youthful wild times, over 60 years ago, there surely must be some form of prescription 😂.
Also, Dave was racing, again, with Nazdar – a BMW 2002 that first came in his hands back in the ’70s – think about that too…. Honey Bee, the yellow MGA with a sting that accompanied Dave in his earlier jaunts and successes for many moons must feel the sting – oh, the irony of life!
At the same time, we cannot overstate how hard these races are fought – none of the competitors come here to just “hand over” the victory to one of their competitors. The races are full-on, everyone waiting for an opening, the slightest mistake, to dive right in and steal a position or three. Dave knows this and certainly does not come with any expectation that things will be made easier for him. He prepares intensely and makes sure that Nazdar too is at the top of its game – always. But then again, the experience of these races is that you do not control all the parameters all the time. In this instance, a hit from behind during the first race has meant that our winning team has been frustrated, despite all its best efforts and for lack of a spare (and the time required to perform the repair), of its place on the podium. Fear not though – Dave collected plenty of honors nonetheless, some from way back in 2020 – he’s now been named “Driver of the year“, some from last year – when he also won the SVRA title. Those had been delayed, pandemic-style, but not forgotten.
And in the true champion fashion, Dave did not recriminate or complain, Rosemary and him went on to make the most of a great weekend of racing and friendship, promising only that the next one will be better even – at life speed! And here are a few photos to just prove it all – enjoy!
Start
Leading Lisa
leading a bunch
Opening the hood
Fixed in no time at all
back on track
Tucked in for the night
To the winner(s) the spoils
A roster of winning drivers on stage
A quick drink (or three) to celebrate
Rosemary joins in the celebratory mood (and drinks)
BAM! Our Dave does Sebring (again)….
